Amerada Hess Corporation (NYSE: AHC) said today that Sam Laidlaw has indicated
his intention to resign as President and Chief Operating Officer and as director
of the company, effective the end of September 2001. His responsibilities will
be assumed for the present time by John B. Hess, Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer. Mr. Hess said: "Sam Laidlaw has made many valuable contributions
to the growth and success of Amerada Hess Corporation over the course of his twenty
year career with the company. Prior to his current position, he was head of our
United Kingdom, Norway and international operations headquartered in London. We
are sorry to see him leave, but understand and respect his decision to pursue
new professional opportunities in the United Kingdom."
Mr. Laidlaw said: "My career with Amerada Hess has been an exciting one and
a rewarding experience. I am grateful for the support of my colleagues and all
that has been accomplished. The company is in excellent shape with good prospects
for the future."
