Amerada Hess Corporation
(NYSE: AHC) announced today that John J. O'Connor had been named President,
Worldwide Exploration and Production of Amerada Hess. Mr. O'Connor also will
be an Executive Vice President of Amerada Hess and a member of the Board of
Directors. Prior to joining Amerada Hess, Mr. O'Connor was President, Worldwide
Exploration and Production of Texaco Inc.
John B. Hess, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Amerada Hess, said "we
are extremely pleased that John O'Connor will be joining Amerada Hess. He has
vast experience in the worldwide exploration and production business and a proven
track record of successful leadership and improving financial performance. He
will be a valuable member of our senior management team."
Prior to joining Texaco in 1998, Mr. O'Connor was Chief Executive Officer
and Director of BHP Petroleum in Melbourne, Australia, the oil and gas exploration
division of the Broken Hill Proprietary Company Ltd., from 1994 to 1997. He
previously served in a wide variety of international management positions with
Mobil Oil Corporation.
In August 2001, Amerada Hess completed the acquisition of Triton Energy Ltd.
for approximately $3.2 billion which substantially expanded its exploration
and production business.
